"We're Injecting Joy into Society:” Video of Roller Skating Iranians Picks Up Steam on Social Media

A video depicting young Iranians, including girls without mandatory hijab, roller skating across the streets of Tehran has rapidly gained traction across social media platforms.

Individuals who appear to be government agents can be seen in a segment of the clip, which was posted on August 11, yet the boys and girls remain undeterred by their presence.

The description of the footage reads: "We're injecting joy into society, sir."

In an act of defiance against the ideology and laws of the Islamic Republic, Iranian women and girls continue to appear in public without hijab despite an intensifying state crackdown on violators of the dress code.

Anger over the suppression of human rights in Iran has boiled over since the September 2022 death in police custody of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, who had been arrested for allegedly wearing a hijab improperly.

The nationwide protest movement appears to have waned in recent months, but resistance to forced hijab rules and gender segregation remains strong, with images of unveiled women in public spaces being widely shared on social media.
